What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is the act of renting space and bandwidth through a company so that you may publish your web site online.
Do you guarantee that my site will always be available?
We guarantee 99.9% uptime. Should our servers have any problems we do have the necessary backups in place to deal with this issue very speedily.
I have a fast internet connection (DSL/cable) - can I just host my own site?
You could, but that's
definitely not recommended.
First of all, most ISPs have clauses that do not let you use
your internet connection for web hosting - doing so will
result in termination of your account.
Second of all, think
of the headaches it can provide: making sure your system is
secure so that no one can hack into it, having your computer
on 24/7, and other such problems.
Third of all, think
of the performance. Most good web hosts use powerful servers
with lots of RAM and high performance hard disks.
Furthermore, they have multiple internet connections at
speeds far higher than what residential DSL or cable service
can provide.
Lastly there are all the issues of support. If something
goes wrong, it will be your job to fix it - you will not
have a professional to correct the problem.

What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is a word along with a .com, .net, .org, .biz etc. that uniquely identifies your website. Please visit our domains page for more information.
How Do I Register a Domain Name?
Registering a domain name is very easy. Just let us know if you have a name in mind, or we will find options for you. First Source Web will make sure that the domain you want is available and will take care of the rest for you.
Do I have to change my domain if I get a new host?
No. Provided that the domain is registered in your name (as it should be), you can simply update your namservers (from where you manage your domain names) to that of your new host.
How is my site uploaded to my domain name once it is completed?
First Source Web will take care of this for you. All that is needed by you would be to provide your domain name login and password which was provided to you from your domain name registrar. If you are not sure of this information First Source Web will walk you through the process.
Will my domain name automatically transfer/port-over to First Source Web?
No. First Source Web will need the domain's user/account name and password to initiate a transfer on behalf of a customer.
Does First Source Web require that we host a customer's domain before we will host their email for that domain?
Yes
Are there any restrictions in sending e-mail?
Yes. The maximum size of 50 mega bytes.
Will I lose any e-mail when my domain transfers?
No, there may be a delay but you will not lose any e-mails.
Can customers transfer their pacbell.net/earthlink.net/aol.com e-mail accounts to First Source Web?
No. These email accounts are part of that ISP's network.
Can I check my e-mail account(s) from home?
Yes, through the use of webmail. Click here for instructions.
Can you host more than one domain name for e-mail?
Yes. Any additional domains would be added as an alias to your master domain. This configuration is done on our mail server. No changes are needed on your end unless you want "the from" address to show the email address of one of the domain aliases.
What is a webmaster?
A webmaster is someone who has the responsibility of managing a web site. Most web masters not only oversee the day to day running of the web site and its web hosting, but also develop new pages for the web site and optimize and promote the web site for the search engines.
What is a web server?
A web server is either a special computer or server for reliable hosting of web sites, or the software application that runs on that server. The two main web server applications used by most web hosting providers are Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) for windows hosting and Apache for UNIX hosting. Both use the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to transfer web pages to your web browser.
Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the www?Yes, if your website is hosted by First Source Web you will be able to access your domain name with or without the www in front.
Can I upgrade from one account type to another? Yes, you can upgrade at any time. We do not charge a fee to upgrade.
How much space do I need?If you are hosting your site with First Source Web then you do not need to worry about space requirements. We will host your site regardless of size. For more information on the hosting packages offered click here.
How do I track my visitors?
First Source Web offers some tracking tools for your site, ranging from the bare minimum to the more in-depth. If you are interested we will install tracking codes throughout your site to monitor your sites performance.
Do I have to have a domain name registered prior to signing up for a First Source Web hosting plan?
No, you can register your domain name and order your First Source Web hosting plan at the same time. If you do not have a domain name registered prior to signing up for a First Source Web account you must register a domain name at the time of signup- Or we can do it for you! Do I have to register my domain name with First Source Web?
It is not mandatory that you register your domain name with First Source Web in order to host with us. We are more than happy to sign clients who have registered their domain name with a different provider although we highly encourage clients to register their domain name with First Source Web.
My website requires daily changes, is this possible?
Yes updates can be done the same day if marked as a "priority". Otherwise, all changes will be made within 24 hours.
What is covered under the web site maintenance services?
Our Web Site Maintenance services cover areas such as updating of text content, updating of graphical content such as photos and images, adding and removing of pages, links verification etc.
What is NOT covered under the web site maintenance services?
Our Web Site Maintenance services DOES NOT cover areas such as updating of Flash animation, reprogramming of Flash animation, programming of web application, additional pages, re-configuration of layout, editing of dynamically generated pages, copywriting, proofreading etc.
What if my website has Flash animation that I need to change or edit?
We will have to quote separately depending on the complexity of the Flash animation and whether the source code and source files are still available. In the event that the source file is not available, it might be more costly and take a little bit of time to re-program the Flash animation.
