Frequently Asked Questions

Q

Will my current website work with my campaign?

This is a possibility and we will certainly review your website for you to let you know if there are any changes needed before your campaign will start. Typically, if you have an older website (and sometimes even a brand new website that might not have been built properly to work with SEO) there will be changes to make.

We recommend converting your website to work with WordPress, a highly popular content management system with many features but still very simple to use. We also recommend adjusting your design to be ‘Responsive’ which means the layout will adjust to ANY SIZE monitor, tablet, ipad, or mobile phone, etc. This is very important for search engines- if your website is not responsive it can negatively affect your position on Google, Bing or Yahoo. We will also review your current website for proper On-Page Optimization. For example, check for title and meta tags, page speed, sitemap, page redirect, etc. ipad_admin_screen2

Q

Do I need a social media presence?

Absolutely! Having social media accounts set up for your business is a great start, but not going to do much unless they are actually being used often. Basically, having activity and sharing on social media will lead to an increase in visibility and links. This then will lead to higher rankings, which is easier said than done. Many important factors go into this process including creative content that is memorable, useful, evokes emotion, tells a good story and makes someone or another company benefit from it.

This is just the basics of how social media marketing works. The more content the better and the more that content is valuable the higher the increase in traffic. Of course, it is important that this traffic comes from potential customers too, so creating good content is king. facebooktwitter-linkedin-youtube-33

Q

What about SEO has changed in the last few years?

Google talks a lot about Hummingbirds, Pandas, Penguins, Pigeons, Paydays, and Pirates. Sounds crazy, right? These are all of the names of each major update that Google releases for their search engine. With every update there are major changes in how Google crawls through or indexes your website. This is very important for the placement and positioning of your website on their search engine.

With that said, SEO strategies must change with every update. Here at 1st Source Web, we stay on top of the latest and greatest information and news to keep all of our client’s campaigns up to date. Without staying up on the latest changes, a website can take a major downfall in traffic…which leads to less return on investment. It is of our utmost importance to build positive ROI for each and every one of our clients.

Q

What is a responsive website and does my website need to be responsive?

The goal of responsive design is to build web pages that detect the visitor’s screen size and orientation and change the layout accordingly. This is a must do for 2016 forward-  We will rebuild your website on a grid based system so it can change and conform to the device being used on and will also adjust to wider desktop screens and laptops, ipads, tablets, and mobile phones, etc. This is very important for becoming search engine friendly and more importantly for your customers by adding ease of access to your website. If the navigation of your website is poor then you will lose potential customers.responsive_design

Q

What is the difference between organic vs. paid results?

If you are searching for a keyword on a search engine, it will give you two types of results: organic and paid.

Organic or ‘natural’ results are the listings that rank closest to the keyword that you are searching for based on relevance. Essentially, if a website is showing on the first page of Google for a keyword with high search volume (see below), that means this website is doing very well with optimization for this particular keyword (but maybe not for others). The purpose of search engine optimization is to show up in the ORGANIC results. The main benefits of organic results include increased traffic, ROI, cost effectiveness, increased site usability, and brand awareness.

On the other hand, the PAID results may show at the top of a page above the organic results but will continuously be paying per click to be showing in this placement. The cost per click is based on many factors such as, keyword competition and keyword traffic volume and more. These are basically advertisements that have been placed there based on the keyword you have typed in on the search bar. Each of these ads will say “AD” next to them and sometimes will be shaded a different color (see below). The benefit to paid advertisements is that your website can start showing with high ranking very quickly. The downside is that you are continuously paying per click (anywhere from 50 cents to upwards of $50+ per click depending on the keyword, competition, traffic, etc.). Once you stop your campaign the clicks stop too.

Q

When will I see results?

To us here at 1st Source Web, results mean “traffic that converts”. As your rankings increase on search engines, you will start to see your results. The early stages of your campaign have the potential to have a slow start, and this is natural for search engines. For example, if you started on position 30 and moved to position 24 (a gain of 6 positions) within the first few months you may feel frustrated, but this is about a 5% change in traffic to your website. The more gain on your position the higher percent of change, and the more traffic you will start to receive.

There are a few key factors that will influence how soon you will see results. The main factors include keyword competitiveness, keyword traffic, and total investment. In general your keywords should be high traffic with low competition and your monthly investment should be appropriate to handle the amount of traffic and competition to stay above all other websites on search engines. After all of this comes into play, you should typically see results after the first six months, and then your results will grow over time.results-take-time
